Description of DJJ Lessons

 

This discipleship training will be a one-year path to maturity in Christ and church planting. There will be 52 lessons, one per week.
At the end of the year’s lessons disciples will:
  • Have learned about basic and advanced spiritual disciplines.
  • Have practiced or made written commitments to practice basic and advanced spiritual disciplines corresponding to each of the 52 lessons.
  • Have learned the whys and some "how-to’s” of church planting.
  • Have been challenged to pursue further church planting training and help plant a church.
  • Have journeyed with Jesus to a depth often not known even after decades.
  • Have been challenged to disciple others through this journey.

Here is an overview of some of the lessons from each quarter:

Quarter 1: Foundational Journeys with Jesus (The Gospels)

  • Jesus Journey to the Cross. Response: Salvation and assurance of salvation.
  • Jesus Journey to the Jordan. Response: Baptist
  • Jesus Journey to a Mountainside. Mark 3:13-14) Response: Commitment to being mentored and eventually to mentoring others.
  • Jesus Journey to Emmaus. Response: Trusting God despite discouragements and confusion.

 

Quarter 2: Church Planting Journeys with Jesus (Acts 1-16)

  • Jesus Journey to Organization and Systems.  Response: Spirit-led organization and systems.
  • Jesus Journey to Cyprus.  Response: Opposing false teaching.
  • Jesus Journey to Antioch of Syria.  Response: Accountability relationship.
  • Jesus Journey to Troas.  Response: Be led by the Spirit.

 

Quarter 3: Journeys to Maturity in Jesus (Acts 17-28)

  • Jesus Journey to Berea. Response: Diligent daily Bible study.
  • Jesus Journey to Ephesus.  Response: Correction through teaching.
  • Jesus Journey to Imprisonment. Response: Faithfulness when sidelined.
  • Jesus Journey to Ministry. Response: Have and pursue ministry vision.

 

Quarter 4: Deeper Journeys with Jesus (The Epistles)

  • Jesus Journey to Spiritual Maturity. Response: Attaining spiritual maturity.
  • Jesus Journey to Purity. Response: Maintain sexual purity.
  • Jesus Journey to Balance. Response: Balance in issues of Christian liberty.
  • Jesus Journey to Sacrificial Giving. Response: Giving generously.

 

Studies to be developed can be used in many contexts:
  1. Small Groups
  2. One-on-ones
  3. House churches
  4. Leadership training groups
  5. Family devotions
  6. Children’s or youth classes
  7. Self-study with mentor input
  8. Home schools
  9. Classrooms and classes
  10. Other contexts coming from your experience and creativity
